BIKE RULES

  • Single bikes only
  • Approved hard shell helmets must be worn and fastened at all times while the bike is in motion
  • Competitors must obey ALL ROAD RULES AT ALL TIMES
  • There is to be no drafting of competitors or vehicles. Officials will patrol the course and time penalties apply
  • All repairs must be carried out by the cyclist and spare tubes, a pump and basic repair kit should be carried
  • Supporters MUST NOT drive on the course

BIKE CHECK IN

It is your sole responsibility to ensure the safe operation of your bike prior to and during the race.  Whilst we will not be scrutineering we will be checking any bike that looks unsafe.

If you’re not sure about your bike then book it in for a service with the team at Bike Ride, Liverpool st, Hobart.

BIKE RACKING & TRANSITION INFO

The number of bikes in the events necessitates an orderly arrangement of bikes in the transition area. There will be a rack for individuals and a rack for teams. Further information about the racking of bikes and the operation of the transition area will be explained at the event briefing.

ROAD CYCLE COURSE

Approximate distance: 32 km

Estimated time: 1hr - 2hr

Team road cyclists wait inside the transition zone but must not mount their bikes until they have been tagged by their paddler and left transition. Individuals must collect their bike from the racks and are allowed one support crew member in the transition zone for assistance.  Riders must not mount their bikes until leaving the transition zone.

The road cyclist exits the transition area via the marked chute and turns left onto Rheban rd. Cyclists continue along Rheban rd before being turned by marshalls at the 8km mark. There are two covered cattle grids on the course -please take care and slow down. Cyclists complete two laps of the course. On returning after the second lap, cyclists will turn right (giving way to vehicles) and return to the transition zone, dismount prior to entering the transition area and tag their mtber.

Riders must be self sufficient in terms of minor repairs. No drafting is allowed and in the interest of safety and traffic flow, supporters are not to follow riders at any stage.

There will be SES personnel on the bike course, however you are solely responsible for following the correct course and obeying all traffic laws. The road cycle course will not be marked, so make sure you know where you are going.

Ensure you dress appropriately as it can be cold. Bring clothes that you can change into that suit a variety of weather conditions.

For safety reasons, participants are strongly encouraged to carry a mobile phone in a waterproof bag (eg. Ziplock). The phone number for event safety will be passed on to competitors prior to the event.

The pin-on race number from your race kit must be clearly displayed on the front of your outer garment while cycling.
