Course Description

The event starts at 0900 with an event briefing at the foreshore at 0830. The course follows a 'clover leaf' format with all transitions to be held on the Franklin foreshore. Tracks will be well marked with arrows and bunting, and marshalled by volunteers and SES safety personnel.

Run – 7 km

Starting on the Franklin foreshore, competitors will begin by running up New road and then link onto undulating farm and forestry trails for a trot through the hills behind Franklin. For those with the time to look the run provides beautiful views over the Huon River.

*The run course is largely on private property and will only be open on the day.

Mountain Bike – 15 km

The mountain bike takes competitors a short way north along the Huon Highway (2km) to a left hand turn up Swamp road. Here riders will climb through the Franklin hills following a variety of forestry and farm trails finishing with a series of exhilarating descents. With a mixture of terrain the course has something for eveyone, from smooth fast gravel to challenging climbs and thrilling descents.
The mountain bike course will involve only half the climbing that the winter challenge course did. We will cut off the steep muddy (in winter) climb that everyone loved so much!

*The mountain bike course is also largely on private property and will only be accessible on race day..

Road Cycle - 37 km - Map

The road cycle leg will start from the Franklin foreshore with competitors turning south and riding along the Huon Highway to Scotts road. Here they will take a left hand turn, loop through Geeveston and return to Franklin. The course is relatively fast being mostly flat between Franklin and Geeveston but with a few climbs up Scotts Rd leading to a great descent into Geeveston.

Kayak – 11 km - Map

Kayakers will paddle on the sheltered and generally glassy waters of the Huon river. Starting from the boat ramp at Franklin kayakers head through the tree lined canal across Egg Island before turning north for a loop around northern Egg Island.
